Australian PM Anthony Albanese announces engagement
Anthony Albanese, the Prime Minister of Australia, has revealed his engagement to his partner of four years, Jodie Haydon.
The proposal took place on Valentine’s Day at the Lodge, the official residence of the prime minister in Canberra. Albanese presented a ring he personally designed for the occasion.
Albanese, aged 60, and Haydon, aged 45, first crossed paths at a business dinner in Melbourne back in 2020.
This milestone makes Albanese the first Australian leader to become engaged while in office.
Mr Albanese shared the news on social media with a selfie, captioned: “She said yes.”
“We are thrilled and excited to share this news and look forward to spending the rest of our lives together. We are so lucky to have found each other,” the pair later said in a joint statement.
