At least 60 killed in Lebanon, including children, in Israeli airstrikes
Lebanon’s health ministry has reported at least 60 fatalities following Israeli air strikes on the Bekaa Valley, a region known for its Hezbollah presence. Among the deceased were two children, with another 58 people injured. Rescue operations are still ongoing in the area, officials said.
The strikes targeted 12 areas within the Baalbek region, which the area’s governor, Bachie Khodr, called the “most violent” since Israel intensified its operations against Hezbollah last month. The Israeli military has not yet responded to the reports.
These strikes add to ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah, which began escalating on October 8, following a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel. Hezbollah has since launched rockets into Israel, while Israel has conducted numerous air raids targeting what it describes as Hezbollah’s military assets and operatives. Earlier on Monday, Israeli air strikes also hit Tyre, killing seven and injuring 17, after warning civilians to evacuate the city center.
Lebanon’s health ministry reports over 2,600 deaths and more than 12,400 injuries across the country due to the conflict, with approximately 1.3 million people now displaced.
