At least 125 dead, many injured in Indonesia football stadium crush
A tragic stadium crush at an Indonesian football match has seen 125 people killed – it’s become one of the world’s worst stadium disasters.
Many were also injured, as the home team, Arema FC lost to their bitter rivals at the overcrowded stadium.
The crush happened late on Saturday in Malang, East Java after police tear-gassed fans who invaded the pitch.
Panic soon set in and thousands surged towards the stadium’s exits where many suffocated.
Fifa states that no “crowd control gas” should be carried or used at matches. Fifa’s president Gianni Infantino said it was a “dark day for all involved in football and a tragedy beyond comprehension.”
