An Asda worker who paid himself nearly £27,000 in bogus refunds has been jailed.
Aaron Hughes, 30, spent the cash on high-end shopping trips at Harrods and Selfridges as well as luxury holidays abroad.
Chester Crown Court heard he dealt with customer refunds as part of his role at the Winsford superstore in Cheshire.
But towards the end of last year, managers noticed a string of suspicious reimbursed transactions and launched an internal investigation.
They discovered that Hughes had paid himself a total of £26,775 in the space of just three months.
He admitted stealing the money but told police he was being blackmailed for up to £500 each week.
Hughes was jailed for 12 months after pleading guilty to fraud by false representation.

DC Rebecca Sadler said: ‘Hughes has proven himself to be a prolific liar and his actions are down to nothing but greed.
‘During his short three-month crime spree, he managed to steal almost £27,000 from his employers, to fund his luxury spending sprees and trips away.
‘He thought he could go under the radar, and even following his arrest, Hughes continued to tell blatant lies to officers.
‘Thankfully, he has now been held accountable and is facing the consequences of his actions.’
