With many teachers and students set to head back to school this week and the next, now is a great time to get the diary together and ensure you have the dates for the October half-term of 2023.
Despite the unpredictable weather this summer, the holidays remain a valuable opportunity for both students and staff to unwind, rejuvenate, and prepare for the upcoming academic term.
Heading back to school after the summer marks the beginning of the Autumn term, which spans from early September to mid-December for most pupils.
So, when will be the next time off staff and students will get?

When is October half term 2023 for schools in England and Wales?
For most pupils in England and Wales, the October half term will occur between Monday, October 23 and Friday, October 27.
This marks the end of the first half of the Autumn term, which runs from Monday, September 4 until Friday, October 20.
The term’s second half will begin on Monday, October 30 and conclude on Thursday, December 21.
However, it’s important to double-check with both your local authority and your individual educational establishment for specific dates, as they may vary across the country.

When is October half term 2023 for schools in Scotland?
Students in Scotland have a slightly different timetable to those in other parts of the UK, with their last day of this half term being October 6, and the half-term holidays lasting until their return on Tuesday, October 17.
Regarding the Autumn term dates, staff resumed on Monday, August 14 and Tuesday, August 15, while pupils began their Autumn term on Wednesday, August 16. The last day of term for pupils and staff is Thursday, December 21.
It’s also worth noting schools will also be closed for St Andrew’s Day – Monday, November 27, and some regional festivals may also affect school opening hours, so always check with your individual education provider.
When is October half term 2023 for schools in Northern Ireland?
Students in Northern Ireland break for five annual holidays during the school year but generally have extra time during the summer holidays rather than extended half-term breaks like the rest of the UK for haf term.
However, they will have both October 30 and 31, 2023, off around Halloween.
