Socialite conned art dealer out of £1,000,000 with promise of massive pumpkin
The Metro says: A socialite stole nearly £1million from art dealers to keep up her lavish lifestyle after she was cut off from her in-laws’ wealth, a court has heard.
Angela Gulbenkian, 39, brokered the sale of a 81kg yellow pumpkin sculpture by a renowned Japanese artist – despite having no connection to its secretive owner.
Prosecutors said German-born Gulbenkian, who married into a renowned arts family, used her marital surname to convince victims she was a high-end arts broker and ‘part with their money’.
She appeared at Southwark Crown Court on Wednesday, where she appeared earlier this month to plead guilty to two counts of theft totalling £1,111,484.
