Michael Owen gives two reasons why Arsenal will not win the quadruple | Football
Michael Owen says the quadruple will be beyond Arsenal’s reach this season, stating that Mikel Arteta’s side can be defeated in both the FA Cup and Champions League.
This analysis comes after Arsenal secured a 1-0 victory over Chelsea on Tuesday to reach the Carabao Cup final, where they will face either Manchester City or Newcastle United on 22 March.
Owen expressed his views during an interview with talkSPORT. He noted that although Arsenal currently sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League after a 4-0 win against Leeds United, he does not believe any team has proven strong enough to compete with them this season.
He added that Liverpool and Manchester City were the only sides initially expected to challenge but they have faltered.
Arsenal’s current standing
Owen indicated that Arsenal’s position in the league is somewhat unchallenged. He commented, “I think nobody’s put much pressure on them, so I think the league is nearly wrapped up.”
In the Champions League, Arsenal finished at the top of their group, set to play one of Borussia Dortmund, Olympiacos, Atalanta, or Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16. In the FA Cup, they will host Wigan Athletic in the fourth round.
Challenges for Arsenal
When asked about the possibility of Arsenal winning the quadruple, Owen stated, “No, I don’t think so but I think they are special, they’re a very strong side, they’re very efficient.”
He believes they are capable of winning the Carabao Cup but emphasised that success in the FA Cup and Champions League will be challenging, as other teams will be focused on those competitions now that the league is almost concluded.
