Arsenal are expected to give Jorginho a new longer-term deal with the midfielder’s current contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Jorginho joined the club last January in a £12million deal from Chelsea, with the 31-year-old signing a one-and-a-half-year contract with the option of a further year.
With just six months left on that deal, the Gunners still have that option of a one-year extension but reports in The Times say that the north London club may be seeking a longer-term deal to tie the Italian down for a number of years.
With Thomas Partey and Emile Smith-Rowe unavailable until the start of January, Jorginho has a key role in providing support to Declan Rice at the base of midfield.
The midfielder notched up his first goal for the club in their midweek win over Lens in the Champions League, and Arteta has been effusive with his praise for the Italian in recent weeks.
‘I’m really happy with Jorgi, I think we all are. He contributes a lot and makes the team better,’ the Spaniard said before their game against Brentford last weekend.

Ben White is also said to be closing in on a new contract after productive talks with the club who are also looking to strike a deal with Takehiro Tomiyasu to extend his stay at the Emirates and ward off any interest from abroad.
The club have already agreed new long-term deals with Martin Odegaard, William Saliba, Gabriel, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli in the past year.
