Arsenal new boy Jurrien Timber requires knee surgery and is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the club have confirmed.
The defender was substituted early in the second half of his first team debut against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
The Gunners have been awaiting scan results and hoping that the Dutchman avoided ligament damage.
However, though the club have not confirmed a suspected ACL tear, the Gunners have confirmed Timber is set for an operation.
‘Further to detailed assessments with consultant specialists since Saturday, we can confirm that Jurrien Timber has sustained an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee,’ a statement read.
‘Jurrien will undergo surgery in the coming days and will be out of action for a period of time.
‘The support and expertise from our medical team and everyone at the club will now be focussed on Jurrien’s rehabilitation programme, to ensure he recovers well and is back playing as soon as possible.’
Devastating.
