Apocalyptic fires tear across parts of Spain as country set for near-record heat

The Mirror says: Apocalyptic fires are raging in parts of Spain as the country saw blistering temperatures above 47C.

Hundreds of people are believed to have been evacuated as forest fires blazed on Sunday.

Rescue efforts were under way in the province of Avila in central Spain after the devastating fires erupted.

Images posted on social media by Spain’s Military Emergencies Unit showed roaring infernos blazing as firefighters desperately tried to tackle them.

Photos taken at Navalacruz show enormous fires tearing through fields as fire crews try to control the spread at old, traditional style buildings.

A local forestry group said on social media that more than 500 firefighters were involved in tackling the fires.
