‘I’m really disappointed’: Andy Murray’s Olympic title defence ended by injury
The Times says Andy Murray’s defence of his Olympic title ended in crushing anti-climax today as he pulled out of the men’s singles with a thigh injury.
The two-time Wimbledon champion, 34, won the Olympic gold medal in 2012 and 2016, but said he had suffered a strained quad and so withdrew from his scheduled first-round match against Felix Auger Aliassime. His place was taken by Australia’s Max Purcell. Murray will continue to play in the doubles with Joe Salisbury, but his stellar Olympic singles career is now at an end.
