Andre Onana appears to have hinted he is close to leaving Inter Milan with Manchester United in talks to sign the goalkeeper.
Erik ten Hag has identified his former Ajax shot stopper as a long-term replacement for David de Gea at Old Trafford.
United’s latest offer for the Cameroon international is thought to be at around £39million. Inter want closer to £51m for their no1 but reports suggest a compromise is likely be struck.
Onana has now suggested a move could be on the cards soon.
On Thursday, he shared a picture of Instagram of a man’s feet, one in a sandal and the other in a designer shoe, alongside the caption: ‘Every life has a story, and every story has an end… never fool anyone’.
United confirmed the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea on Wednesday with their focus now thought to be on wrapping up a deal for Onana.
An opening offer from Old Trafford was described as ‘not at the level expected’ by Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio but negotiations between the two parties continue.
Onana shared his cryptic post on Thursday.
‘In this moment he’s our goalkeeper and Andre is key player for us — we’d like to keep him, then we’ll see what happens.
‘We wait for him on 13 July for pre-season,’ he said.
Inter vice-president, Javier Zanetti, added on the situation: ‘When you have important players it’s normal that there are requests, but for now Onana is one of our players and we hope to keep all the important ones.
‘The transfer market has just begun, anything can change, but Inter have always shown themselves at the top when building important teams.’
David de Gea is now a free agent after his contract expired on Friday. The club remain in talks with the Spaniard over extending his deal but on vastly reduced terms.
Reports also suggest United are closing in on a move for Japanese shot stopper Zion Suzuki having reportedly agreed a £5m fee with Urawa Red Diamonds.
