Alpine confirms Colapinto as Doohan’s replacement from Imola F1 grand prix

Alpine Confirms Colapinto as Doohan’s Replacement for Imola F1 Grand Prix

Alpine has officially announced that Franco Colapinto will step in for Jack Doohan as the team’s driver for the upcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and the next four races. The decision follows a challenging stint for Doohan, whose potential was overshadowed by inconsistent performances.

    Doohan’s Departure: A Difficult Season

Jack Doohan’s tenure with Alpine has been marred by difficulties, including six race weekends that failed to deliver the results anticipated. Despite outqualifying teammate Pierre Gasly at the Miami Grand Prix, a race-ending collision with Liam Lawson further compounded his woes, highlighting a season fraught with on-track incidents.

    Gasly’s Success Sets the Standard

While Doohan faced challenges, Gasly managed a commendable seventh place at the Bahrain Grand Prix, underscoring Alpine’s potential for success this season. In an exceptionally competitive midfield, the team has opted to replace Doohan with Colapinto to improve their scoring opportunities as they aim to solidify their standing.

    Enter Franco Colapinto: Promising Prospects

Franco Colapinto, 21, arrives with a reputation bolstered by a successful stint as a reserve driver for Williams last year, where he scored points in both Baku and Austin. His signing with Alpine over the winter has added not only talent but also support from his home country of Argentina, bringing additional sponsorship opportunities to the team.

    Learning from Experience

Although Colapinto’s time in Formula 1 has not been without its challenges, including violent crashes in Las Vegas and Brazil, he has since been honing his skills through simulation work and private testing with Alpine. The Argentinian’s youthful energy and potential could breathe new life into Alpine’s campaign.

In-Season Driver Changes: A Trend Continues

Colapinto’s appointment marks the second in-season driver shift for 2025, following the earlier swap between Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda at Red Bull Racing. This trend reflects the heightened urgency teams feel to adapt quickly during the competitive season.

    What’s Next for Alpine?

As the Imola race approaches, all eyes will be on Colapinto to see if he can deliver a performance that enhances Alpine’s competitive edge. The pressure is on as the team looks to leverage Colapinto’s talents to secure vital points in the closely contested midfield landscape.

For fans and followers of Formula 1, this development is one to watch as it unfolds in the coming races. Stay tuned for updates on Colapinto’s debut with Alpine and the team’s efforts to reclaim its spot towards the front of the grid.
