The TV star shared why she feels she ‘struggles’ with romance
Alison Hammond has opened up about her personal life, admitting that the idea of marriage makes her feel ‘nervous’.
Earlier this year, the This Morning star shut down speculation that she and her former partner Ben Hawkins had become engaged, describing the rumours as ‘fake news’.
Shortly afterwards, the 48-year-old appeared to confirm to ITV viewers that she was single after splitting up from Ben, as she spoke of her hope of finding a ‘nice man’.
In a new interview with This Morning regular Gyles Brandreth, Alison shared why she feels she ‘struggles’ on the romance front, because she ‘loves’ her own company.
‘I think as soon as I hear the word marriage I get cold feet. I think I’m just one of those people.’
The future Great British Bake Off presenter continued: ‘I always – not think there’s something better – but I always get a bit nervous to know that is it.
‘I just feel like I’m tied down and I don’t like it, when really and truly, I’m getting to that age now where I think, “Alison, let go – it’s OK to settle down.”’
Alison is also said to have clarified in the interview that contrary to some people’s beliefs, she has never previously been married.
The TV star shares her son, Aiden, with her former partner Noureddine Boufaied, who she met while working as an entertainer in Tunisia.

‘If you look online it’s like Alison was married to Aiden’s dad, but I wasn’t. He engaged me but we never actually got married,’ she said.
Alison recalled how she fell in love with Noureddine’s ‘beautiful smile’, adding: ‘Aiden’s got that smile as well.’
Recalling the past relationship, she shared: ‘I just don’t feel like we were ready for marriage at the time. It was the perfect time to get married.’
