From ‘it girl’ Stanley cups to ‘magic’ pimple patches and viral little black dresses, there’s always a new product that people are going mad over to add to your wishlist.
But, in the midst of all the hype surrounding viral items or cheap dupes, we often forget about the essentials we couldn’t live without.
Consumer champion Which? has announced the top products of the year, based on exhaustive testing by independent experts — and you’ll never guess what came out on top: Aldi’s own brand Almat Bio Washing Powder.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Aldi’s washing powder came out on top despite the odds, beating a Lenovo laptop, an ebook reader, the Apple Watch Series 9, a Samsung sound bar and the iPhone 15.
We all love an underdog, but what’s all the fuss about Aldi’s washing powder?
According to Which?, it’s down to its ‘superb stain removal,’ ‘colour protection that keeps whites white,’ and ‘eco credentials’.
‘Aldi is already one of the best-value supermarkets in the country, offering better access to affordable groceries than almost any other,’ the consumer champion said.
‘The Almat Bio washing powder is a perfect example of Aldi’s commitment to quality while keeping prices low in a year where we’ve campaigned to get supermarkets to make stock more affordable to help struggling households.
‘Superb stain removal, colour protection that keeps whites white and not that dull eggshell trendy paint brands seem to have 600 variants of, fully recyclable packaging and no ingredients known to be harmful to aquatic life are qualities that are hard to ignore.’
Harry Rose, editor of Which? magazine, said washing powder came out on top for ‘being better at doing the job it’s made for than more expensive rivals, while even managing to get ahead of the competition in areas like being less harmful to wildlife’.
