The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) semifinals kick off tonight with Nigeria facing South Africa, and later tonight Ivory Coast will take on DR Congo to set up the showdown for one team to be crowned champions of Africa.
This year’s Afcon has been full of shocks with reigning champions Senegal out of the competition on penalties and Egypt also out early.

‘Nigeria look strongest’
The semifinals are happening tonight and both matches are mouthwatering ties.
DR Congo have made it through to the semifinals after beating Guinea and they face Ivory Coast, while South Africa won a dramatic penalty kick shootout against Cape Verde to set up their semifinal against Nigeria. South Africa goalkeeper and captain Ronwen Williams was the hero as he saved four penalty kicks in the 2-1 shootout win and that sums up this chaotic tournament nicely.
As for Nigeria, they look like the strongest team left in the tournament. But this tournament has seen plenty of shocks and upsets, and we wouldn’t be shocked if a few more upsets are in store tonight.
