‘Absolute bloody rubbish’ – Roy Keane blasts Erik ten Hag and Manchester United despite Everton win

Roy Keane was pleased with Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday, saying the side had their ‘swagger back’.

However, the United legend still found time to criticise manager Erik ten Hag and called their sixth-place standing in the Premier League ’embarrassing’.

A wondergoal from Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring at Goodison Park, before a Marcus Rashford penalty and a Anthony Martial strike sealed the Red Devils’ victory over the Toffees.

It wasn’t as easy as the scoreline suggests however, with Everton dominating the game in the last 20 minutes of the first-half and if not for a combination of poor finishing, great goalkeeping and last ditch defending, they would have scored several times.

‘What we saw today from Man United, the whole build-up today was about Everton but they’ve had a difficult few months as well with their form and talks of the takeover,’ former United captain Keane said on Sky Sports.

‘They gave a lot of chances up, but in the second-half a little bit of the swagger came back. At 2-0 you thought it was game over, and it was good to see.’

However, there’s where the praise stopped, with Keane taking issue with Ten Hag praising Bruno Fernandes for giving his penalty to Rashford.

He was also critical of United’s form over the season so far, pointing out that none of their wins have been against sides in the top-half of the table.

‘He’s giving toffee out there to Bruno for passing on the ball for the penalty. Absolute bloody rubbish. Absolute rubbish coming out with that,’ Keane added.

‘Manchester United are sixth now – if you went back a few years, if you were sixth you’d be embarrassed. But obviously they seem happy with sixth.

‘They have a long way to go. Manchester United have to be competing with the best teams. That’s including Liverpool, [Manchester] City, Arsenal, and obviously you’ve got teams like Spurs having a decent spell, Villa and of course Newcastle.

‘They go to Newcastle next week – we’ll see what Manchester United turns up. That’s what they’re supposed to do, turn up for the big games.’
