The Danish Armed Forces have admitted to have made errors in their initial report on suspected drones of unknown origins that flew over the country in the autumn of 2025.

In the run-up to a EU summit in Copenhagen at the beginning of October, drones had been sighted both above civilian and military air bases, causing heightened security measures, temporary airport shutdowns and a private drone ban.

The sites affected included Skrydstrup air base — where Ukrainian pilots are trained on F-16 fighter jets.

Following some scepticism about the official version of events, this June the government and military confirmed that drones had flown over the country, even though their origin was still unknown.

Denmark’s military also released a report about its handling of the incidents.

However their detailed account of one incident was called into question after media reported that witness accounts contradicting their version.

That prompted Defence Minister Jeppe Bruus to ask for a review.

In the revised report of the incident released Thursday, the military admitted that their account might have been mistaken.

Soldiers may have fired into the air while a civilian aircraft passed by, they said, as had been suggested by some aviation and drone experts.

But it stressed that their assessment was still that the soldiers had fired upon what was believed to have been a drone, based among other things on its flight pattern.

“The unit deployed in Borris was carrying out a sensitive guard duty whose purpose was to protect Ukrainian trainees in the camp, and the unit observed drones over the Borris camp on 24, 25, and 28 September 2025,” it said.

Denmark has since worked on enhancing her anti-drone and drone-detection capacities.
