Get you up to speed: New TfL map shows which Tube stations and lines now have mobile coverage | News UK

Transport for London (TfL) has expanded mobile coverage to nine more sections of the Tube network, including parts of the Circle, Northern, and Victoria lines, among others. The upgrades ensure that 60% of Underground stations now have 4G and 5G coverage, with ongoing work to connect the entire network by the end of the year.

Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that 60% of Underground stations have been upgraded with mobile coverage, with ongoing efforts to extend connectivity. Engineers are working overnight to install infrastructure, including connection points and system testing, as TfL aims for full network coverage by the end of the year.

Transport for London (TfL) is progressing with plans to provide complete 4G and 5G mobile coverage across the Tube network by the end of the year, with 60% of stations already upgraded. Rebecca Bissell, TfL’s Director of Information Technology, stated, “We remain focused on having 4G and 5G mobile coverage across the whole Tube network by the end of the year,” emphasising that over 600 engineers are actively working to achieve this.

What remains unclear — TfL has not provided a timeline for the completion of mobile coverage in the tunnel between Vauxhall and Stockwell.

Transport for London (TfL) has been expanding the number of Tube stations with mobile coverage across the capital since the beginning of the year.

Over the last eight months, more stations and tunnels across the London Underground have been upgraded with 4G and 5G coverage, all under TfL’s plans to connect the entire Tube network by the end of the year.

Although most of the stations with coverage are located within central London, updates are rolling out to those outside of the city centre as engineers work through the night to introduce mobile signal.

Most recently, nine more sections of the Tube network have been upgraded, allowing you to send and receive calls and texts, search the internet, watch TikToks and make and receive phone calls (hopefully with headphones).

Scroll on to see the full list of stations and sections of the Tube that are now connected.

The new sections of the Tube network that now allow phone coverage include:

    • Circle, Hammersmith and City, and WTXpolitan lines: Between Great Portland Street and Euston Square, and Farringdon and Barbican
    • Northern line: Between Euston (Bank branch) and Camden Town, Oval and Stockwell, and South Wimbledon and Morden
    • Victoria line: Between Victoria and Pimlico
    • Jubilee line: Between Swiss Cottage and St John’s Wood
    • Bakerloo line: Between Edgware Road and Marylebone
    • Piccadilly line: Between Knightsbridge and Hyde Park Corner

All four major UK operators – Three, EE, Vodafone and Virgin Media O2 – are taking part in the upgrade.

The project also hosts the new Emergency Services Network (ESN), which gives first responders access to life-saving data and information in live situations and emergencies.

TfL has confirmed that 60% of Underground stations across the network have been upgraded, but further work is planned, including ‘installing infrastructure, building connection points, and testing systems’.

For example, the tunnel between Vauxhall and Stockwell, which stops the continuous service between Brixton and Green Park on the Victoria line, will soon have service, although no date has been confirmed.

Windrush and DLR stations located below ground will also be upgraded to connect with 4G and 5G signals. The Elizabeth line, meanwhile, already has continuous mobile coverage throughout.

How else is London transport changing?

Meanwhile, up on the streets of London, robotaxis have finally hit the roads as users can hail a ride with Uber under a partnership with its Wayve autonomous cars.

Uber and Wayve launched a controlled trial this week, giving users a chance to ride in a robotaxi at no extra cost when selecting any of the company’s traditional vehicles.

Although a human driver is still present in the car, customers who choose these new rides can unlock the doors and start the trip from within the Uber app.

Rebecca Bissell, the Director of Information Technology at TfL, said of the upgrades: ‘We are delighted to be delivering more mobile coverage to our customers across our Tube network.

‘Providing mobile coverage across our network means customers can stay better connected while they travel, allowing them to stay in contact with friends and family, shop online and keep up with the latest news and sports results.’

She added: ‘We remain focused on having 4G and 5G mobile coverage across the whole Tube network by the end of the year, and more than 600 engineers work hard overnight during limited engineering hours to help deliver this.’
