    Ontario police oversight report highlights issues with ‘silent’ 911 call response

    In August 2024, a man from Welland, Ontario, called 911 during a heart attack but was unable to communicate effectively. Niagara Regional Police did not send officers to check on him.

    Niagara Regional Police are currently reviewing their response procedures following the incident in August 2024. The man, who was experiencing a heart attack, was unable to communicate effectively during the call for help.

    Niagara Regional Police have acknowledged the incident and stated that they are reviewing procedures to ensure better communication and response in emergency situations. Meanwhile, local health officials are urging residents to familiarise themselves with alternative methods of alerting emergency services when unable to speak.

    What remains unclear — It is unknown why Niagara Regional Police did not respond to the 911 call for assistance.
