    Two teenagers remain unaccounted for after a car crash into the River Nene in Wisbech, with Cambridgeshire Police conducting ongoing searches.

    Cambridgeshire Police reported ongoing searches for the missing teenagers following a car accident in the River Nene, urging witnesses to come forward.
    SEARCH EFFORTS CONTINUE
    Cambridgeshire Police are actively searching for a teenage boy and girl who remain unaccounted for after a car crash into the River Nene near Wisbech.

    What we know so far

    A teenage boy and girl are missing after a car carrying five people crashed into the River Nene near Wisbech on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 8.20pm, prompting a significant response from emergency services.

    Cambridgeshire Police confirmed that the vehicle left the road while travelling southbound on North Brink and entered the river. Three of the five occupants, two females and one male, managed to exit the vehicle and were subsequently transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn with injuries that are not life-threatening. However, two teenagers, a male and a female, remain unaccounted for as searches continue.

    Emergency services have been visible on the riverbank since the incident, with divers actively searching the water. A forensic tent has also been set up at the scene, and it is anticipated that North Brink will remain closed for the rest of Wednesday. Police are urging witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

    The car crashed into the River Nene near Wisbech

    A teenage boy and girl have vanished after a car carrying five people crashed into a river.

    Cambridgeshire Police said the vehicle left the road and entered the River Nene near Wisbech at about 8.20pm on Tuesday.

    The force said there were five people in the car and they were aged between 16 and 18, with two males and three females.

    Three of the five people, two female and one male, got out of the vehicle and were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn with injuries that were not life-threatening.

    Two of the teenagers, a male and a female, ‘have not been accounted for and searches continue’, police said.

    The vehicle was travelling southbound on North Brink in Wisbech St Mary’s when it left the road, the force said, with the road likely to remain closed for the remainder of Wednesday.

    At least a dozen emergency services personnel could be seen on the riverbank on Wednesday afternoon, as a diver searched in the water.

    There was a white forensic tent on the riverbank and emergency service vehicles parked along the road nearby.

    Police are appealing for witnesses and those with dashcam footage to contact them.
