Sound of Guns have announced the death of their frontman Andrew Metcalfe.

The British alternative rock band were formed in Liverpool in 2008 after being discovered by BBC Introducing.

The line-up also included Lee Glynn, Nathan Crowley, John Coley and Simon Finley.

They went on to sign with the record label Distiller Records through and released their debut album What Came from Fire in 2010, followed by Angels and Enemies in 2012.

However, the following year the band announced they were going on an indefinite hiatus and would instead be focusing on ‘other commitments and projects’.

This week they went on to publicly share that their former frontman – one of the ‘greatest ever’ – had died.

‘Today, we are heartbroken. We’re sad to say that our friend, brother, and frontman of Sound of Guns, Andrew Metcalfe has sadly passed away,’ the band shared on their official social media accounts.

‘First and foremost, our love and thoughts go out to his family at this terribly sad time. We love you.

‘Andy was one of the greatest frontmen to ever grace a stage. His presence was unmatched, his songwriting was incredible, and his voice was one of a kind.’

They continued: ‘A true artist, performer, lyricist and just a genuinely lovely man. We take solace in the fact that his music and lyrics touched so many of you and the tributes and stories we have read are simply beautiful to read. So, thank you. We appreciate them and we know his family do too.

‘We are thankful for the short time we had with him and the amazing things we did as a band. We saw incredible things, played incredible stages and met incredible people. We made incredible music together that changed our lives and connected with millions.

‘It’s hard to articulate what Andy meant to us. As Andy said “Still the words don’t say what you want to say” we can never fully convey what he meant to us, to you and to his family.’

The band then asked fans to ‘drop photos and memories in the comments below so his family can read them’.

Concluding the post, they wrote: ‘Rock in peace brother. Your voice and music lives on forever. Love from Simon, Nathan, Coley, Lee and our manager, Paul.

They did not disclose his cause of death.

Paying tribute themselves, fans shared their memories of the band and its lead singer.

‘If you knew Sound of Guns, you knew every gig wasn’t just a night out, it was a lifeline. Their music made you feel alive when you barely felt present at all. From those nights came laughter, lifelong friends, and moments that became part of who we are. Andy and the band gave us more than music, they gave us life, and their spirit stays with me every time I hear their songs,’ Corinna commented.

‘Andy such a top bloke, never too proud to talk to you, have a laugh. The Stage is a quieter place now,’ Mark shared.

‘So grateful to have witnessed the magic, you will never be forgotten. Your songwriting and stage presence were legendary, I feel honoured to have been in your orbit,’ Cindy added.
