Cliff Notes – Educating Yorkshire’s future revealed after season 2 finale leaves fans begging for more

    • Fans are actively requesting a third season of Educating Yorkshire, praising its heartwarming stories and engaging content since its return eight weeks ago.
    • Channel 4 has acknowledged the positive reception but has not confirmed any plans for a future series, stating they will pass along viewer feedback.
    • The original series, which aired in 2013, won a National Television Award and featured memorable moments, including the journey of Musharaf Asghar overcoming his stammer with the help of his teacher, Mr. Burton, who is now the headteacher at Thornhill Community Academy.

Channel 4 viewers have begged the broadcaster for at least one more season of what some fans have described as ‘the best thing on TV’.

Educating Yorkshire returned for a second series eight weeks ago, giving TV viewers another insight into the lives of the staff and pupils at Thornhill Community Academy in Dewsbury.

Now, Channel 4 has given an update on the show’s future.

@MarkBlackman wrote, ‘I have loved Educating Yorkshire with the new series! Please say there will be more! So many lovely stories from teaching to being a Year 7.’

Channel 4 then responded to Mark, giving an update on the future of the series: ‘Hey Mark! Educating Yorkshire has presented beautiful moments and we’ve delighted with the reception it’s been gaining.

‘We don’t have any information at this time about a future series coming to Channel 4, but we’re more than happy to pass your kind words along.’

The first edition of the show was broadcast in 2013 and captured the attention and hearts of the nation, winning a National Television Award for best documentary.

High among the list of stars were Musharaf Asghar and his teacher Mr. Burton, who worked together to help ‘Mushy’ overcome his stammer to deliver a speech to the rest of his school year group.

Mr. Burton is now headteacher at Thornhill, with the Channel 4 cameras returning the school after 12 years to see how the world, and teaching, has changed.

The second series of Educating Yorkshire came to an end on Sunday night, with the election for head girl the main focus, being decided by the teachers.

It remains to be seen whether its returning series will have the same impact as the original run, but Channel 4 viewers want it to keep coming back every single year.

@Kels80 said on X: ‘Can we have a new series of Educating Yorkshire every year from now on please? It really is the best thing on TV.’

@Jacki_113 celebrated the series and the staff: ‘Hope Educating Yorkshire returns, I really enjoyed the series. The teachers and head all deserve good patience awards.’

@RoseColoredChar said: ‘Was a bit worried the new series of Educating Yorkshire wouldn’t be anywhere near as good as the old ones but I have thoroughly enjoyed it! Hoping for another series in the future.’

@SequinnedSheep also hoped for more: ‘What an absolutely wonderful series Educating Yorkshire is. Mr Burton and his team seem really dedicated to bringing out the best in each student.

‘I really hope they do another series next year. I’ve found it so heartwarming.’

Thus far, Channel 4 has only produced one sequel season as part of its Educating series, with 2017’s Educating Greater Manchester being followed up by Educating Greater Manchester 2 in 2020.

So, with all being well, there’s every chance Channel 4 could be returning to Thornhill Community Academy before the end of the 2020s in order to find out what the kids have been getting up to.

Before that, there’s also a chance for the cast of Educating Yorkshire’s second run to return in Christmas and One Year On episodes, as they did back in 2013 and 2014.

Watch Educating Yorkshire on Channel 4.
