George Russell Leads FP1 at Austrian Grand Prix; Alex Dunne Impresses for Mclaren

George Russell set the pace in the opening practice session for the Austrian Grand Prix, following up his recent victory in Canada with a time of 1:05.542. The Mercedes driver edged out Red Bull‘s Max Verstappen by just 0.065 seconds, while McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and rookie Alex Dunne secured third and fourth place respectively.

    Russell’s Dominance in Practice

Russell’s performance showcased his continued form as he aims to build on his momentum from Canada. The Austrian circuit, known for its short lap times, allowed drivers to showcase their speed, and Russell took full advantage.

    McLaren’s Rising Star: Alex Dunne

Alex Dunne made headlines as he finished fourth, impressing on his debut in the Formula 1 weekend. The 19-year-old, filling in for Lando Norris, expressed his elation over the team radio: "You made a little boy’s dream come true and this was definitely the best day of my life." Dunne, the current Formula 2 leader, became the first Irish driver in 22 years to participate in a grand prix weekend, adding a significant chapter to his burgeoning career.
