Chappell Roan drops major hint she’s performing at Glastonbury Festival

Cliff Notes – Chappell Roan drops major hint she’s performing at Glastonbury Festival

    • Chappell Roan’s recent Instagram post featuring a patchwork flag has sparked speculation that she could be the mystery performer "Patchwork" at Glastonbury, despite strong rumours pointing to Pulp.
    • Glastonbury insiders, including SecretGlasto, have hinted at her involvement, with connections made to her breakout hit "Good Luck, Babe," raising further intrigue about her potential performance.

Chappell Roan has got fans in a spin after she appeared to tease a possible Glastonbury Festival appearance.

The gates have now opened at the Worthy Farm festival and revellers are spilling in for the 53rd Glastonbury, taking place this weekend.

While Pyramid Stage headliners are confirmed as The 1975, Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo, with Charli XCX on The Other Stage, there are still some question marks over a few empty slots, which are secret sets.

The biggest of these is Patchwork; the fake band name teasing a huge artist who will perform on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday evening at 6.15pm.

Just like The Churnups turned out to be The Foo Fighters in 2023, we’ve all been convinced Patchwork is Pulp – something that is pretty much a surefire thing, after reliable Glastonbury sleuths SecretGlasto said as much on social media.

However, 2024’s biggest breakout international popstar Chappell, 27, has just thrown out a huge curveball with a recent post.

The star caused a stir posting this patchwork picture on Instagram, leading many to believe she’s mystery performer Patchwork (Picture: Instagram/Chappell Roan)

The Pink Pony Club hitmaker posted a series of throwback photos, one of which saw her waving a huge patchwork flag.

Fans immediately made the link to the Glastonbury Patchwork tease, which could be brushed off as a coincidence if SecretGlasto didn’t have an X bio linking her to the secret slot even more.

Underneath her post, Chappell wrote: ‘Insane vibe.’

Meanwhile, SecretGlasto’s X bio is: ‘babe this is insanity.’

The sleuths often post cryptic clues on their social media in the run up to Glastonbury about who the secret sets are.

‘Babe’ could be a link to the Midwest Princess’ breakout hit Good Luck, Babe.

Emily Eavis — head organiser and daughter of Sir Michael Eavis — teased that Patchwork has been ‘in the works for a while’.

While it seems Patchwork is still likely to be Pulp, this could be a distraction tactic from Chappell and Glastonbury insiders to keep fans guessing, meaning the star is perhaps taking up one of the other secret slots, currently on the line up as TBA.

The Pyramid Stage’s TBA is a short 4.55pm to 5.30pm slot on Friday, previously rumoured to be Lewis Capaldi making a lowkey Glastonbury return after his emotional set in 2023.

While there were a whopping 56 TBAs on the lineup when it dropped, the big ones are heavily rumoured already.

Lorde are rumoured to be making a Friday 11.30 appearance on Woodsies, while US sisters Haim are whispered to be the Park Stage’s TBA on Saturday at 7.30pm.

Chappell’s name was bandied about with other acts – who have since been confirmed – via a source in December.

A source has told The Sun at the time: ‘Chappell Roan, Olivia Rodrigo and Charli XCX will all play Glastonbury next summer.

‘Charli will headline The Other Stage and Chappell will be playing the Pyramid Stage.

‘Olivia is coming straight to Worthy Farm after playing BST Hyde Park, so her slot is being firmed up.’

The source added that organiser Emily Eavis wanted to go back to Glastonbury’s rock roots with Neil Young and The 1975, but the addition of Charli, Olivia and Chappell would make a ‘real statement’.

Chappell and Olivia also go way back, as before her stratospheric rise to fame the Red Wine Supernova supported Olivia on her tour.

A few weeks ago at Primavera Sound, Chappell was Charli XCX’s ‘Apple girl’, as she was filmed dancing along to the viral track in the crowd, as is tradition for the Brat queen’s gigs.

This comes after Pulp keyboardist Candida Doyle told BBC6 Music they were rejected by Glastonbury through what sounded like stifled laughter.

When asked, she said: ‘We wanted to, just because it’s the 30th anniversary and that kind of thing, and they weren’t interested.

‘And then we were thinking maybe next year, and then they’re not doing it next year.’

Her comments come after Pulp’s frontman Jarvis Cocker said the band would only perform at the iconic festival this year in a ‘life or death situation’.

Watch this space, it’s going to be an interesting Glastonbury. If Chappell is Patchwork, there will be a lot of angry Pulp fans, who have waited for their return to the festival for 30 years.

The Britpop icons headlined the festival in 1995 after The Stone Roses pulled out, going down in history as one of the best performances.

Every year, rumours circulate that Pulp will return but since 1998 we’ve been left disappointed – except for some solo sets from the frontman.

Now, with a new album More – their first in 24 years – and summer arena tours happening, it seems likely 2025 is the right time.
