F1 decides against F175 style season launch in 2026

Formula 1 Rules Out Joint Season Launch for 2026

Formula 1 has opted not to hold a joint season launch for the 2026 campaign, following the success of its inaugural event in 2025 at London’s O2 Arena. While the 75th anniversary celebration attracted substantial viewership and engaged fans, the commercial rightsholders, FOM, have decided to focus on other priorities ahead of a season marked by sweeping regulatory changes and new car designs.

Background on the 2025 Season Launch

The 2025 season launch was unprecedented, featuring all teams showcasing their new liveries in front of a sell-out crowd. It boasted a peak of 1.1 million live viewers on YouTube and garnered a total of 7.5 million viewers across various platforms, underlining the event’s significant impact.

    Reasons Behind the Decision

    Focus on Regulatory Changes

The decision from FOM stems largely from the substantial regulatory shifts that will reshape the 2026 season. Teams will need to adapt to entirely new cars and power units, a logistical challenge requiring concentrated efforts on development rather than promotional events. This means that the initial pre-season tests, scheduled for late January in Barcelona, are a priority, offering teams valuable time to refine their new machines.

    Timing and Registration Challenges

With the first testing phase occurring behind closed doors, an elaborate launch event would be a distraction as teams work to finalize their sponsorship arrangements for the new season. Engaging in such an event amidst this complexity is deemed impractical for F1‘s participants.

    Future Possibilities

While F1 will not replicate the 2025 joint launch in 2026, there are discussions about potentially revisiting this format in the future. Instead of returning to London, the event could be hosted in various key markets worldwide, offering a broader engagement opportunity for fans globally.

    Conclusion

As F1 gears up for a transformative season in 2026, the focus remains on ensuring teams are fully prepared for the challenges ahead. While fans may have to wait for another large-scale launch event, the promise of future engagements in different cities remains an exciting prospect for the global motorsport community.
