Union says bin strike could spread

- Union leaders co-ordinating a protest amongst refuse workers in Sheffield have warned that the Birmingham bin strike could spread to other cities.
- Dry conditions in the North York Moors have forced the National Park Authority to announce a fire alert. The recent warm and sunny weather has been enjoyed by many, but heather and other vegetation have become extremely dry, according to those responsible for the national park.
- BRADFORD Council could use compulsory purchase powers to empty the Kirkgate Shopping Centre and Oustler Market buildings in advance of their demolition. But council bosses hope that ne gotiations with existing tenants mean that such powers are not nec essary
