Cliff Notes – IPL franchises exploring new training methods to reach 300

    • RCB and PBKS are both focusing on strengthening their squads ahead of the upcoming season, aiming for a competitive edge.
    • Coach Sanjay Bangar emphasises the importance of nurturing local talent to enhance team dynamics and performance.
    • The franchises are exploring strategic partnerships and training methodologies to maximise player potential and team synergy.‚

IPL franchises exploring new training methods

IPL franchises are exploring new training methods and strategic partnerships with player data companies to strengthen the chances of their teams to gain that new cutting edge for the upcoming season.

This year in the IPL 2025 there are expectations of teams reaching 300 runs in the competition.

After the second game of the season, where Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) scored 286 against Rajasthan Royals (RR), the expectations didn’t seem misplaced either.

Five matches in to this years IPL 2025 that possibility seems weak, after the fifth game, the 200 mark has only been crossed touched once.

One-dimensional, wham-bam batting plans? Pitches? What is it?

Sanjay Banjar thinks its the bowlers being braver.

“The top orders, as far as batting is concerned, are a little bit headless at the moment, [going by] the kind of approach that is being seen. Whereas the bowlers [have been] rigorous, as usual,” Bangar said. “We have been through those bowling meetings; those seem to last longer. Maybe an hour, hour-and-a-half. Because we need to plan against each and every batter.”

Bowlers have also adjusted a lot of bowlers, they have to be more defensive, they hit that back-of-a-length harder and more consistently. Adapting to the pitch conditions and seeing that ealy is key. Like the Great Pakistani Wasim Akram used to say, you only need 3 balls to know if the pitch was going to swing or seam.

Thus on certain pitches, pitching hard at the back of a length works. On certain wickets that are fairly flat, you’ve got to ball fuller to give the opportunity to the ball to swing.

Bowlers need to practise hitting those targets in the nets. They must spend 3/4 hours being able to test the pitches. Bowling in the IPL is hard, theres no 2 ways about that, but practise can make you better.

Using data sets on batsmen to understand their stances and percentages to certina balls will give ballers a fighting chance.

Batsmen have such an array of shots that can whisk away any ball for a 6, makes for a hrad graft for bowlers.

Whilst batting meetings are short and sharp to the point, “lets get 300”, if at all there are any, or are either during practice sessions or maybe a five- or ten-minute quick chat. However, bowlers are putting more thought and getting more skilful as well. If they don’t that 300 score will be closer than you think.
