The other F1 driver still under pressure

Doohan Faces Pressure Amid Alpine Uncertainty

Alpine’s Jack Doohan finds himself in a precarious position as speculation intensifies over his future in Formula 1 following a challenging start to the season. With rumors surrounding fellow driver Franco Colapinto gaining traction, the pressure is mounting on Doohan to secure his place amid management’s pursuit of potential replacements.

    The Rising Tensions in Alpine

As the 2025 Formula 1 season unfolds, Jack Doohan’s initial outings with Alpine have raised eyebrows, leading to discussions about his long-term viability in the team. Pre-season predictions heavily favored the possibility of an early exit for Doohan, especially with Colapinto already lined up as a reserve driver. Under a three-year contract, Colapinto’s management is keen to maintain momentum for their client amid growing uncertainty surrounding Doohan’s performance.

    Contractual Clauses: The Early Countdown

Doohan’s contract reportedly includes a performance clause, enabling Alpine to review his position after just six races. While it is not uncommon for contracts to contain such stipulations in F1, the six-race threshold is notably low, exacerbating the scrutiny on Doohan’s performances. His debut in Abu Dhabi, finishing 15th, set a challenging precedent, especially in comparison to teammate Pierre Gasly’s seventh-place finish.

    Mixed Bag of Results

Despite a rocky start, Doohan has shown glimpses of potential. His qualification ahead of Gasly in Australia, coupled with unfortunate incidents in tricky racing conditions, suggests there may be room for growth. However, mistakes have marred his progress, including a penalty in China for a risky overtaking attempt that resulted in an altercation with Gabriel Bortoleto.

    Team Dynamics Under the Microscope

Doohan’s recent performances have also affected team morale. After another eventful race, where penalties overshadowed his efforts, both Doohan and the Alpine management face tough questions about the direction for the remainder of the season. Doohan’s optimistic outlook contrasts sharply with the growing concerns among Alpine’s executives, who remain tight-lipped about his job security.

    Future Implications

With the cloud of uncertainty looming, the consensus among F1 pundits seems to suggest that the clock is ticking for Doohan. As the team weighs potential reinforcements, including the emerging figure of Colapinto, Doohan’s next few races could very well determine whether he retains his seat beyond the six-race evaluation period.

    Conclusion: A Rocky Road Ahead

In a sport defined by split-second decisions and razor-thin margins, Jack Doohan’s ability to adapt and improve will be critical for his future at Alpine. As the pressure mounts, both from within and outside the team, the coming races will be decisive, setting the stage for a dramatic narrative in the unfolding F1 season.
