A man from Manchester, Michael John Paul Kelly, was apprehended on a fishing boat off Cornwall carrying over a ton of cocaine valued at £100 million. Kelly, initially claimed to be on a fishing trip, eventually pleaded guilty in court.
Caught on fishing boat with £100 million worth of cocaine
Michael Kelly told police he was on a fishing trip after his arrest, but later pleaded guilty
The National Crime Agency (NCA) stated that he was found in the accommodation area of the boat, named Lily Lola, when it was intercepted by border patrols in September.
The cocaine was discovered in neatly packaged bales and was recognised as of ‘high purity,’ with a tracker linked to a South American user also found in the haul. Kelly was one of four men charged, with others involved found guilty by a jury.
NCA representatives praised the operation’s success in thwarting a significant drug supply, which could have severely impacted communities in the UK and Europe.
