Another week, another thrilling reveal on The Masked Singer UK!
So far, we’ve had Kate Garraway unmasked as Spag Bol, Dame Prue Leith revealed as Pegasus, and Macy Gray unveiled to be Toad in the Hole (but not before she stormed off stage in dramatic fashion).
Then, last week, Tattoo removed her mask, and viewers were stunned to find 80s singing legend Carol Decker underneath.
Joining them this weekend, judges Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, and Maya Jama were stunned when Teeth took off their costume.
Underneath was none other than Bake Off host and comedian… Mel Giedroyc!
The panel were all visibly stunned by the reveal, having failed miserably in trying to suss out Mel’s voice.
At multiple points throughout the series, the judges scratched their heads, even unable to decipher whether Teeth was a man or a woman.
Previous guesses from Davina included Jill Scott, while Mo suggested Jimmy Bullard.
Earlier in the episode, names such as Fearne Cotton, Rosie Ramsey, and Su Pollard were also thrown into the mix after Teeth’s clue song was the Neighbours theme song.
Mel, 56, laughed: ‘Gang, I’ll take Su Pollard,’ adding that it was ‘so nice to see everybody’ after taking off her novelty costume.
She added that it was the ‘training and showbiz’ that allowed her to change her voice to make it more difficult for the judges.
‘I love these teeth so much!,’ Mel said of her costume.
Weighing in on the other outlandish predictions from the foursome, she said: ‘I was very pleased with Alex Scott.
‘Such a fun show; it’s impossible not to have fun on this show!’
Speaking in a post-unmasking Q&A, Mel declared that her stint on The Masked Singer was the ‘pinnacle’ of her career.
On being eliminated, she proved herself to be anything but a sore loser: ‘I just feel it’s a win-win.
‘I didn’t think I’d get this far; I think I’ve got over halfway, which is great!’
Of course, Mel’s longtime pal and fellow GBBO presenter Sue Perkins has also competed in the show, having also fooled everyone as Dragon in series 2.
However, she had no idea what Mel was up to, as she confessed that her co-star ‘doesn’t know’.
‘She was a Dragon, and she never told me. So right back at ya, girlfriend!’, Mel quipped.
Mel is famous for being a comedy star and TV presenter, having worked with Sue since the early 1990s on Light Lunch for Channel 4.
In 2010, they began hosting The Great British Bake Off for BBC together, both quitting in 2016 when the show moved to C4.
Her other presenting gigs have included the likes of Sport Relief and Comic Relief, The One Show, and commentating for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Most recently, in late 2024, Mel became the host of the British version of the game show Pictionary.
While Mel has been eliminated from The Masked Singer, the competition is still fierce as seven characters remain.
The surviving contestants are: Bush, Wolf, Bear, Dressed Crab, Kingfisher, Snail, and Pufferfish, who will continue fooling both the panel and audiences at home.
The Masked Singer airs each weekend on ITV1 and ITVX.
