Netflix confirms return of hit legal drama after fans threatened to ‘revolt’

Netflix has left fans of a legal drama massively relieved after confirming it would return for another season.

The first season of The Lincoln Lawyer was based on Michael Connelly’s 2008 novel The Brass Verdict and was released in 2022.

The show stars Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller, a defence attorney based in Los Angeles who often works out of a chauffeur-driven Lincoln Navigator rather than an office.

A remake of the 2011 Matthew McConaughey film of the same name, other cast members include Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, Angus Sampson, and Yaya DaCosta.

The series picked up plenty of fans when it premiered, with many sharing their reviews online.

‘Addicting and edge of the seat drama. Easy to get hooked and quite likely to finish watching in a single day,’ Venkat posted on Rotten Tomatoes.

‘A great show. It took a few episodes to catch me, but once it did I was hooked,’ Glenn shared.

‘Loved the characters and all the twists and turns this show took!’ Dianne added.

Since then, another two seasons have followed. The second, which aired in 2023, was based on Connelly’s 2011 novel, The Fifth Witness. Meanwhile season 3, which was released last year was based on his 2013 novel The Gods of Guilt.

However, after watching the most recent episodes, fans were on edge about the future of the show.

‘Netflix if you don’t renew The Lincoln Lawyer for another season I will revolt,’ Mai posted on X.

However, this week the streaming service announced season 4 was going ahead after the last cliffhanger ending.

‘You can breathe a sigh of relief, because Mickey isn’t the kind of guy to keep you hanging on that cliff forever,’ Netflix shared.

The next season will include 10 episodes and will be based on the sixth book in Connelly’s The Lincoln Lawyer series, The Law of Innocence. Production will begin next month.

Upon learning about the update, many shared their excitement.

‘This made my night. Thank you so much…this was the best series I watched in the whole of 2024,’ user just_blossom11 posted on X.

‘Yess love this show!’ Patrice shared.

‘Such a good show. Netflix knew not to drop the ball on this one,’ another added.

The TV adaptation of The Lincoln Lawyer was created by David E. Kelley (Big Little Lies) and developed by Ted Humphrey (The Good Wife).

Last year Humphrey spoke about working with the writer on the series.

‘We’re lucky to have Michael Connelly work with us and he’s incredibly collaborative. He’s always the first person to say, let’s throw out this thing that was in the book and let’s come up with something new,’ he told Screen Rant.

‘He was more involved in earlier seasons than he is now, but he is still very involved. So, it’s a challenge, but also, I really love these books, so it’s a fun challenge, and sometimes you knock it out of the park.’

He also said he would love to continue adapting the book series, of which there are currently 7 novels.

The Lincoln Lawyer is streaming on Netflix.
