90s rock band issues urgent appeal after drummer’s daughter, 16, goes missing

The 16-year-old daughter of The Flaming Lips guitarist, Steven Drozd, has gone missing in Washington as band members share online plea for help in the search.

The teen, Charlotte Drozd (also known as Bowie) vanished in Seattle, Washington, near the Space Needle after being last spotted on the city’s monorail.

In a missing poster posted to his 259k followers by lead vocalist Wayne Coyne, and reposted to the band’s official account, she is described as a five foot seven inches girl with brown hair and eyes who is ‘possibly headed to downtown Seattle’.

‘URGENT!!! Please help if you can !!! Steven’s daughter ( she is 16 years old ) is missing !!! She was last seen at the Space Needle early on Saturday….I’ll post more info as soon s I can,’ he wrote in the caption.

The father-of-two, Steven, commented under the post: ‘Thank you Wayne for posting. We don’t know what to do’ as fans rallied to support them in the search.

Hollywood star Jack Black also reposted the missing poster to his Instagram story to his 14.3 million followers.

Charlotte, who weighs about 130 pounds, was wearing khaki shorts and pink shoes when she disappeared, according to the Seattle Police Department.

The police department also confirmed it had been classified as a missing or runaway juvenile case and a detective from the Missing Persons Unit had been assigned to it, per the Independent.

Anyone with information should contact the Seattle Police Department or call Charlotte’s mother, Becky.

The band are currently opening for alt-rock band Weezer on their North American leg and stopped in Seattle on Friday, a day before daughter Charlotte went missing.

Their next show is set to be in Sacramento, California, tonight.

Nell Smith dies at age 17

Teenager – best known for her work with Flaming Lips – died in a car accident.

The development comes at the same time as the shocking news that 17-year-old musical prodigy Nell Smith – best known for her work on Flaming Lips Where the Viaduct Looms – had died in a car accident, as confirmed by her label Bella Union (created by Cocteau Twins’ Simon Raymonde).

In a statement, Simon wrote: ‘We are all shocked and devastated to hear of the sudden and tragic passing of our artist and dear friend Nell Smith, over the weekend in British Columbia.

‘Nell was just 17 and was preparing for the release of her first solo record in early 2025 on Bella Union, made in Brighton with Penelope Isles’ Jack and Lily Wolter.’

Wayne also addressed her tagic death at their Portland, Oregon show on October 6.

‘We are reminded once again of the power of music and how encouraging it can be to be around people that you love,’ he told the crowd before singing 1999 song, Suddenly Everything Has Changed.
