Former Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri has been linked with a shock return to the Premier League, according to reports.

Sarri spent one season at Stamford Bridge in 2018-19, guiding the Blues to victory in the Europa League as well as the final of the Carabao Cup.

However, the Italian proved a divisive figure amongst the Chelsea fanbase and eventually left his post at the end of the season.

The 65-year-old had a stint at Juventus but is still searching for a new job having ended his three-year spell at Lazio in March earlier this year.

However, the Italian is now attracting interest, with reports from Corriere dello Sport reporting that Everton’s new owners are keen on Sarri should they choose to replace Sean Dyche.

While Friedkin Group’s takeover is not expected to be completed until the end of 2024, Dyche is under increasing pressure to turn results around at Everton.

The Toffees currently sit 19th in the league having failed to win any of their first five games.

Led by billionaire Dan Friedkin, the Friedkin Group also runs Serie A side Roma and was keen to appoint Sarri to replace the outgoing Daniele De Rossi.

However, Sarri’s previous stint with Roma’s arch-rivals Lazio is said to have persuaded the owners to look elsewhere.

David Moyes has been linked as a potential replacement for Dyche who is now favourite with the bookmakers to be the next Premier League manager to lose his job.

The Scot is now out of work after leaving West Ham at the end of last season but was in charge of the Toffees from 2002-13 before leaving to take over at Manchester United.

Everton host Crystal Palace at Goodison Park next in the league on Saturday.
