Daily Mirror – Royal peace gesture
The Daily Mirror picks up on comments from Fox News presenter Sean Hannity who said he spoke to Trump shortly after the incident. He said Trump had heard a “pop pop” while playing the fifth hole on his golf course in Florida before he was rushed to safety.
“Royal peace gesture”, writes the Daily Mirror as it reports on the King, Prince William and Kate posting 40th birthday messages to Prince Harry.
Donald Trump ‘assassination attempt’ as Secret Service shoot at man with AK-47 and Go-Pro camera
Donald Trump has survived what the FBI is describing as “an apparent assassination attempt” in which a man with an AK-47 was fired upon by Secret Service agents at a Florida golf club.
The US Secret Service says ex-President Donald Trump is safe after the shooting saw emergency services scrambled to the scene and shots fired at a man believed to be holding an assault rifle. It is believed to have occurred after a Secret Service agent walking several holes ahead of the President on the course spotted a rifle barrel in a treeline and alerted the rest of Trump’s protection team.
The suspect dropped his weapon and fled in an SUV, and was later taken into custody in a neighbouring county, the officials said. He has since been identified as Ryan Wesley Routh.
Routh is alleged to have tried to shoot the businessman while he was golfing at Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach, close to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
Law enforcement officials confirmed the identity of the suspect to the Associated Press but spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the ongoing investigation.
Prince Harry birthday post shows ‘Charles will never completely close door’
For the first time in three years, the Royal Family acknowledged Prince Harry’s birthday on their official social media platforms, a courtesy extended to all working royals but which came as something of a surprise given the Duke of Sussex’s estrangement from The Firm.
In what could be seen as a strategic peace offering, the King and the Prince and Princess of Wales publicly extended birthday wishes to Prince Harry on his 40th birthday yesterday. Both Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace took to their social media platforms within hours of each other, as the Duke of Sussex geared up for celebrations in California.
The chosen image of Harry, captured during his tenure as a working Royal in 2018, was taken during a visit to a Dublin start-up with Meghan by his side. However, she was noticeably absent from the frame, seemingly cropped out by the original photographer at the time.
