Members of the International Criminal Court (ICC) are obligated by treaty to detain suspects if an arrest warrant has been issued, but the court lacks an enforcement mechanism.
Mongolia declines to arrest Vladimir Putin during his visit despite ICC warrant
On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Mongolia, with no indication that the host country would heed calls to arrest him under an international warrant for alleged war crimes related to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
This official visit defies the ICC’s warrant for Putin’s arrest on war crimes charges, issued nearly 18 months ago. It marks Putin’s first visit to an ICC member state since the warrant was issued.
