Elsewhere, a large image of Sven is featured on the front page. Online, the paper has plenty of tributes to the former England boss. “Eriksson built a reputation as one of the brightest minds in European football,” the paper says, adding his time in charge of England ‘would come to define his career.’
Calls for cladding investigation after ‘terrified’ residents flee London tower block fire
An investigation has been demanded into the role of flammable cladding in a “terrifying” fire at a London tower block, seven years after safety concerns were raised by the Grenfell disaster.
Residents described fleeing the burning building, in the Freshwater Road area of Dagenham, in the early hours of Monday.
Some said they were coughing up black soot after inhaling smoke and had lost their belongings in the blaze.
More than 80 people were evacuated and two were taken to hospital. All residents have been accounted for and an investigation into the fire has been launched, the London Fire Brigade said.
Brigade commissioner Andy Roe said there were “fire safety issues present within the building”.
Sven-Goran Eriksson, manager of England’s golden generation, dies aged 76
Sven-Goran Eriksson, the manager in charge of England’s “golden generation” during the early 2000s, has died aged 76.
Eriksson was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year after suffering a stroke while out running near his home in Sweden. He told a Swedish radio station in January that he had “at best a year left to live”.
Eriksson bade a final farewell to the public in a recent documentary. “I had a good life,” he said. “I hope you will remember me as a positive guy trying to do everything he could do.”
