Daily Mirror – Knife horror at holiday kids club
The Daily Mirror describes the attack in Southport as a “horrific knife rampage”. Six children and two adults remain in critical condition as Merseyside Police continue to question a 17-year-old boy, originally from Cardiff, over a deadly knife attack in Southport, the paper adds.
Elsewhere, the front page reports Tom Daley has claimed silver for Team GB at the Olympic games in Paris as he and Noah Williams excelled in the men’s 10m synchronised platform final but were beaten by China.
There is also room on the front page to report on the Huw Edwards charge. Huw Edwards has been charged with making indecent images of children. According to the charge sheet, Edwards is accused of having six Category A images, 12 Category B pictures and 19 Category C photographs on WhatsApp. If found guilty, he could receive a maximum penalty of six months imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine.
Chilling moment masked man paces outside Southport home minutes before mass stabbing
This is the chilling moment a masked man paces outside a house which was later raided by police after two children were stabbed to death.
The footage was taken outside a property in Southport, and captures an individual wearing a green hoodie and a face mask walking back and forth by the front door. The doorbell clip, obtained by ITV, then shows several police cars and a group of officers, including some who are armed, appearing at the same house.
Two kids died and six other children remain in critical condition after being stabbed at the Taylor Swift-themed event on Monday morning. Dozens of youngsters had gathered for a “yoga and dance” holiday club before the chaos unfolded. Armed cops had earlier scrambled to a community centre called Hart Space in Southport after reports of a knife attack at 11.47am.
It remains unconfirmed if the new footage, embedded in the tweet below, is directly linked to the stabbing probe but it happened in the same small, seaside town. Police later arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the stabbings, which they described as a “ferocious attack”.
Tom Daley lands another Olympic medal as he and Noah Williams win silver in Paris
Tom Daley has claimed silver alongside Noah Williams in the men’s 10m synchronised platform final in Paris as China dominated to land Olympic gold.
The British duo were a genuine medal hope on Monday morning and have delivered in the pool. Daley claimed gold in this event at the last games in Tokyo three years ago – on that occasion alongside Matty Lee – but has narrowly missed out in his attempt to defend his title.
Daley came out of retirement to have another attempt at an Olympics medal and he and Williams kept the Chinese on their toes throughout the six rounds. Great Britain dived before China, putting them under pressure in the final round as they sat in the gold medal position for a moment.
