London weather warms up as skies clear – but how long will it last? | UK News

After yesterday’s grey skies, London is clearing up to give way to sunshine and warmer temperatures today.

Though parts of the capital could see the odd rain shower throughout the day, most will bask in the sun.

London will see a high of 26°C and a high UV index – so make sure to wear some sun cream before heading out into the glorious weather.

Other areas in the UK will see similar temperatures, though a bit cooler. Brighton will see a high of 20°C, Manchester will sit at a warm 24°C and further north in Edinburgh, residents will see temperatures of 22°C.

Western areas of the UK will be a bit cloudy with some drizzle, the Met Office said, but elsewhere will remain dry.

A new weather front is expected to bring rain to most of the country on Thursday, starting in the west and pushing eastwards throughout the day, with highs of 23°C.

Friday is likely to be a similar story, though the rain will be lighter in most areas outside Wales.

Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell said the weather will settle again going into the weekend and next week.

He added: ‘It won’t be wall-to-wall sunshine and we’ll see rain in the north on Monday and the rest of the country on Thursday.

‘It also won’t be as hot as recent days but warmer than the start to July. It will be an improvement.

‘Overall, the south east and south are likely to see the warmest temperatures next week.’

Last week, the UK saw their hottest day of the year with temperatures of 31C in the capital.

So far this summer, the UK has seen consistent low pressure systems bringing heavy winds, clouds, rain and thunderstorms, and bang average temperatures.

The rest of Europe is quite literally burning as a ‘hellish’ heatwave makes its way across the continent.

Temperatures as high as 44°C have hit southern and eastern parts of the continent, sparking wildfires across Greece, Portugal, Bulgaria – and now in Spain.

Tourists and residents have been urged to stay inside to escape the excessive heat in Turkey, Greece and Italy.

British families heading to Spain, Portugal and Morocco this week have now been warned to brace themselves for a heatwave with highs of up to 46C.

Spain’s health ministry issued alerts for large parts of the country as the mercury climbed above 40°C, telling citizens: ‘Protect yourself; hydrate yourself; refresh yourself, and take care of more vulnerable people.’
