It’ll be no surprise that today’s biggest trending story – across the globe – is news the current sitting US President has announced he will not seek re-election. Joe Biden will remain in office until the end of his term. He has given his support to his vice president Kamala Harris – who is widely expected to become the official Democratic nominee – and will face Donald Trump in the November election.
Trouble started for the 81-year-old president a few weeks ago when he delivered a disastrous TV debate with Donald Trump, leaving many questioning his age and mental fitness. Since the debate, the president has also suffered several other high-profile gaffes. More and more top democrats and democratic figures have called upon the president to step aside to allow for a younger candidate to face Trump as polls increasingly showed Biden would struggle against the Republican nominee.
