8 things you missed overnight in the General Election if you’re just waking up

The Conservatives suffered an almost total collapse – losing hundreds of seats to Labour and the Lib Dems – and being forced into third place in more.
Reform failed to live up to the 13-seat prediction in the exit poll – securing just a handful of seats for key party figures. And independent candidates caused upsets and unexpected results across the country.

The former Home Secretary, who has previously called for now MP Nigel Farage to join her party, took the opportunity in front of the cameras to apologise to the country for achieving little in office and not listening to the public. With Labour on course for over 400 seats, she stated the obvious, saying: “The great British people voted for us over 14 years and we did not keep our promises.”
