EXCLUSIVE: Keir Starmer vows to make country feel ‘Britain is back’ with promise to restore hope
Keir Starmer has vowed to give the country hope again after 14 years of hurt under the Tories. As he enters the final hours of the election campaign, he said he wanted people to feel that “Britain is back”. In an interview with the Mirror ahead of polling day on Thursday, the man who is within touching distance of becoming our next PM pledged to “roll up my sleeves from minute one” if elected. And he joked that unlike Rishi Sunak he will have an umbrella ready in case it is raining outside No10.
During a campaign stop at Hucknall Town Football Club in Nottinghamshire, he appealed to Mirror readers to help him secure a thumping majority so he can end the Tory shambles. “It’s a massive decision for the future of the country,” he said. “It’s the opportunity to turn our backs on 14 years of chaos, division and failure. And turn the page and start to rebuild the country with Labour.”
Missing Jay Slater ‘was scared’ when he left Tenerife Airbnb – and investigator thinks he knows why
The former British police detective working for the family of missing Jay Slater has alleged the teenager was scared when he left the holiday rental where he was last seen. Mark Williams-Thomas, who has probed a string of high-profile missing persons cases, made the claim about the apprentice bricklayer on Wednesday morning, while giving a public update about his last known movements. And the TV sleuth also stated that Jay, 19, said he couldn’t go back to the property, which two Spanish police officers were seen examining while wearing forensic style blue slip-ons over their shoes on Tuesday morning.
Keir Starmer mocks Rishi Sunak for wheeling out Boris Johnson to save Tories from wipeout
Keir Starmer has brutally mocked Rishi Sunak for wheeling out Boris Johnson in the final hours of the campaign. The Labour leader claimed he is “not worried in the slightest” that it could give the Tories a last-minute election boost. He joked that the current PM would be doing a joint press conference with Liz Truss next after failing to turn things around.
Disgraced Mr Johnson was a surprise speaker at a rally in London last night. He lashed out at Labour and Reform UK, but did not heap praise on Mr Sunak. Asked if he was alarmed by the former PM’s return to the frontline, Mr Starmer told reporters in Wales: “I’m not worried in the slightest. Having argued for six weeks that they’re chaotic and divided, to bring out Exhibit A with 24 hours to go just vindicated the argument I’ve be making.”
