Cristiano Ronaldo saw the funny side as he posed for a selfie with a young pitch invader during Portugal’s Euro 2024 clash against Turkey.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star had jus played a key role in creating Portugal’s third goal of a one-sided contest for Bruno Fernandes.
In the process, Ronaldo reached yet another personal milestone, with that assist representing his seventh in European Championships, one more than the previous joint record holder Karel Poborsky.
Moments later, the game had to be paused for a brief interruption as the young fan evaded numerous stewards to get close to his idol.
On that occasion, the 39-year-old was more than happy to take a moment and provide the child with a moment he will never forget.
Ronaldo was less than impressed with 10 minutes remaining, however, when another fan made his way onto the playing surface, hoping for a memento.
The Al-Nassr forward was in no mood to indulge a second fan, however, and motioned for the stadium security to deal with the interloper.
The situation developed into something of a farce in injury-time when three more supporters managed to breach security and made it onto the Signal Iduna Park pitch.
Portugal manager Roberto Martinez remonstrated with the officials on the sidelines as concern for Ronaldo’s safety began to mount.
Thankfully, the game finished without any undue harm to Portugal’s superstar forward who can now look forward to his side’s next game with top spot in Group F already assured.
Bernardo Silva set Portugal on their way, scoring his first goal in a major international tournament in the 21st minute when a cross from Nuno Mendes deflected off a Turkish defender.
The Manchester City forward ghosted in alone in the area, and then smashed it past the goalkeeper to put the 2016 European champions ahead.
Seven minutes later, Turkish defender Akaydin made a comical mistake as he tried to play the ball back to his goalkeeper who was out of position and there was nothing he could to stop it from rolling into the net despite their desperate attempts to keep it out.
Fernandes completed a convincing win 10 minutes into the second half when he tapped home from close range following Ronaldo’s unselfish pass.
