The Senedd’s ( Welsh Parliament) presiding officer, Elin Jones, has given a fairly damning review of the Welsh House of Commons (Llywydd – House Speaker) where she works.

She replied that she did, despite the challenges, and highlighted the importance of representing her constituents.

Jones emphasized the need for politicians to be accessible and responsive to the needs of the people they serve. She also discussed the impact of social media on communication with constituents.

Her role is the equivalent of the speaker in the House of Commons (Llywydd). She was asked on Radio Wales’ Drive show by host John-Paul Davies whether she enjoyed her job.

“I do enjoy most of my work, I won’t deceive you to think that I enjoy every single moment of it. Sometimes I can find myself in debates where sometimes I’m a bit bored by what I’m hearing around me. Sometimes it’s far too exciting. I always leave the chamber in an afternoon thinking if I’ve drawn no attention to myself, things have gone pretty well,” she said.

She went on to describe how things aren’t as she expected. But said the first election in 1999 was a hugely significant event. Devolution meant the Welsh people elected members to its first ever Senedd. I

t was right on the eve of crossing over to the new millennium. That hope is something she is holding on to.
