Emma Raducanu slammed and ridiculed for embarrassing Madrid defeat
Emma Raducanu has been slammed by pundits and ridiculed by fans after suffering an embarrassing defeat to qualifier Maria Lourdes Carle in Madrid.
Raducanu went into the match as a heavy favourite after registering four wins in a row and pushing world No.1 Iga Swiatek all the way in Stuttgart.
The 21-year-old British star, who tasted Grand Slam glory at the US Open in 2021, admitted ahead of the Madrid Open that she was struggling with fatigue.
Despite some concerns over her fitness, Raducanu was largely expected to beat her Argentine opponent on the red dirt but has crashed out in the first round.
