Fierce storm lashes UAE as Dubai diverts flights
Several Gulf states have been hit by heavy rain, causing flash flooding across the region and flights being diverted from Dubai Airport – the world’s busiest airport.
At least 18 people in Oman have been killed by floods, according to authorities.

Several states have recorded nearly a year’s worth of rain in one single day.
Footage online appears to show planes leaving waves in their wake as they made their way down flooded runways.
In a statement, Dubai Airport said inbound flights due to arrive on Tuesday evening had been diverted “due to the continued exceptional weather event currently being experienced in the UAE”.
After a couple of hours of disruption, flights were able to restart.
The Gulf region is usually hot and dry, but heavy rains causing flooding have occurred in recent years.
In Oman, of the 18 people who have died in the flash flooding, 10 of them are students aged between 10 and 15. Some are still missing.
The unusual weather, which is picking up in frequency in the region, is due to climate change according to scientists.
They say exceptional storms will become more common in future as the planet continues to warm. #
