Ford’s PCs maintain strong lead, Crombie’s Liberals outperform NDP

The latest poll from Liaison Strategies has revealed some interesting shifts in Ontario politics, with Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s PC Party projected to win another big majority government if an election were held today. The poll also shows Bonnie Crombie’s Liberals making gains and potentially regaining official party status at Queen’s Park, while the NDP would be relegated to third place once again.

According to the poll of 1,280 eligible Ontario voters, 40% would back Ford’s PCs, 30% would back Crombie’s Liberals, and only 18% would back the NDP under Marit Stiles. Ford’s support remains steady compared to the last election, where his party won 83 seats, while Crombie has been able to move the Liberals up in the polls since taking over as leader in December.

The NDP, on the other hand, has failed to solidify themselves as the left-of-center choice in Ontario, allowing the Liberals to make a comeback. With the Liberals showing signs of resurgence, the political landscape in Ontario is shifting, with potential implications for the upcoming election.

However, Crombie’s recent comments about increasing taxes and fees on commuters could hurt her party’s chances, especially in suburban areas like Milton where a by-election is currently taking place. Promising to increase taxes and fees may not resonate well with voters, especially those who have been benefiting from tax and fee cuts under Ford’s government.

Overall, the poll results indicate that Ford’s PCs are in a strong position, with favorable numbers and support from voters. The shifting dynamics in Ontario politics suggest that the upcoming election will be closely watched, with potential implications for all parties involved.
