X Factor winner Matt Terry comes out 7 years after rising to fame on show

Almost seven years on from his X Factor win and following endless speculation online, Matt Terry has publicly addressed his sexuality for the first time.

The singer, now 30, shot to fame when he won Simon Cowell’s talent show in 2016, with his debut single, When Christmas Comes Around, peaking at number three in the UK chart.

In recent years, Matt has taken a step back from the limelight and has been on a real personal journey, now feeling a great sense of relief after opening up about falling in love with a man.

Speaking to Gay Times, the star – who won The X Factor aged 23 – said it was ‘so hard’ to read articles speculating about him being gay when he first became famous.
