Nolan’s Oppenheimer wins big at Baftas

This year’s Bafta Awards saw Oppenheimer win big – with British director Christopher Nolan and actors Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr scooping up the big awards.

Irish actor Murphy won the Best Actor award for his role as J. Robert Oppenheimer, while Downey Jr was honoured with Best Supporting Actor.

The film won seven Baftas including Best Film. Meanwhile, Poor Things bagged five awards with Emma Stone winning Best Actress for her role of a British woman reanimated with the brain of a baby.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph was awarded Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “The Holdovers.”

The Oppenheimer success hints at potential big wins at the upcoming Oscars

The win marks Nolan’s first Bafta win despite his incredible films such as Dunkirk, Inception and The Dark Knight. Downey Jr’s win, his first Bafta victory in 31 years since “Chaplin” in 1993, set a new record for the longest gap between wins for any performer.

The top films at the Bafta Awards were as follows:

    • “Oppenheimer” – 7 wins
    • “Poor Things” – 5 wins
    • “The Zone of Interest” – 3 wins
    • “The Holdovers” – 2 wins
