At least nine killed as Pakistan launches strike into Iran

Pakistan has conducted missile strikes within the borders of Iran, responding to Tehran’s attack on Pakistani soil earlier this week. The Pakistani foreign ministry revealed that the strikes specifically targeted “terrorist hideouts” in Iran’s Sistan-Baluchestan province. The ministry emphasised that the purpose of this military action was in “the pursuit of Pakistan’s own security and national interest.”

According to reports from Iranian state media, at least nine individuals lost their lives as a result of these missile strikes. The retaliatory move comes after Iran’s Tuesday attack, where targets within Pakistan’s Balochistan province were struck. Tehran justified its actions by stating that it was targeting the Jaish al-Adl group.

Tensions between Pakistan and Iran have been fueled by longstanding accusations, with both nations alleging that the other harbours militant groups responsible for carrying out attacks along their shared border regions.
